Hello everyone,

Did you all see the footage of that plane that crashed in the Hudson River yesterday? That might be one of the craziest things I’ve ever seen in my life (and I once saw a hobo eat an entire jar of pickled eggs in under a minute). I’ve been aboard quite a few flights in my lifetime and I’ve always zoned out during the part where the flight attendant goes over the safety instructions, not realizing that there actually was a chance that I would need to use my seat as a flotation device.

The most amazing part is that all of the passengers survived. (Sadly, something tells me that the birds involved in the incident didn’t make it.) The pilot definitely deserves a raise and a medal of some kind. Or at the very least, someone should send him a giant bag of candy.

Here’s what’s new on HoboTrashcan.com this week:

Murphy’s Law – An open letter to the wannabe rocker who cried on American Idol last night
American Idol may have a new judge this season, but its first week back on the air featured the usual bunch of ridiculous contestants vying for a ticket to Hollywood. One contestant in particular, a wannabe rocker named Randy Madden, caught Joel Murphy’s attention, so this week Murphy gives Madden some advice on how to become a real rock star.

Note to Self – It’s in the Cards
Four NFL teams will compete this Sunday for a trip to this year’s Super Bowl. While the playoffs have certainly been unpredictable this season, the biggest surprise by far is the fact that the Arizona Cardinals are one of those four teams. This week, Brian Murphy takes a look at the Cardinals unlikely playoff run.

Outside of the In-Crowd – Tis the Season
With the upcoming Academy Award nominations and the slew of “Best of 2008″ list, Courtney Enlow is feeling particularly Outside of the In-Crowd this week. With so many acclaimed movies and hip musical artists to check out and so little time, Enlow can’t help feeling like a failure for not checking out all the great things 2008 had to offer.

Overrated – Sports movies
While Ned Bitters thoroughly enjoyed The Wrestler, he can’t help but feel that sports movies in general are overrated. In Bitters’ opinion, films like Miracle, The Bad News Bears, Slap Shot and Rudy fail to capture the excitement of the actual sports they are depicting.

Week 72 Spotlight: Bruce Wayne, 1938 – 2009

This past Wednesday, Bruce Wayne was tragically killed by the evil god Darkseid, who used his Omega Sanction to reduce Wayne to nothing more than a charred corpse.

As you can imagine, this news has hit Joel Murphy and Lars Periwinkle rather hard. The dynamic duo can’t quite comprehend why the evil writer Grant Morrison would choose to kill off their beloved hero. This week, they explain why this latest publicity stunt by D.C. Comics is destined to fail and they try to convince the powers that be to bring back Bruce Wayne before they do something that they will truly regret (like handing over the Batman mantle to Robin).

Why would D.C. Comics choose to kill off Bruce Wayne? What would Lars do to Grant Morrison if he got his hands on him? In spite of their grief, can our podcasting team actually manage to talk about the NFL playoffs, Obama’s inauguration and young Adolf Hitler Campbell? The answers to these questions and more are in this week’s podcast.
