I like your theory that the reason Richard isn't shifting around like the Oceanic folk is because his string is "completely entwined" with the island. But you mention that you think this is the case with all of the Others. However, I'm not so sure. The only Other we actually see is Juliet, who is skipping around with the Oceanic people. So you can't be sure if Juliet is the exception or if Richard is. Perhaps Richard is locked into the island, but the rest of the Others are skipping around in time too; we just haven't seen them yet. I was thinking about this column as I was watching Lost again.
