They're going back in time to find the pig who started the media scare over swine flu.

Well, like I said in the essay, I'm willing to be proven wrong on Abrams.

Allow me to rephrase - "you shouldn't deny ..."

My point is, Abrams is a talented guy and I think he will do a good job with Star Trek. Of course, I don't have a strong attachment to the Star Trek franchise, so really it doesn't matter to me either way. As long as the movie doesn't involve going back in time to save whales, I think it will be fine.

Lee: The irony of fandom being, of course, that the fanbase will probably complain no matter what. It's not for them, I guess. I really don't care. I just want to enjoy it for a change.

Joel: But this is why you should never use the phrase "You can't deny," because I find Lost's premise hackneyed and derivative. Patrick McGoohan did it much, much better.

Johnny: I don't mean this like it sounds, but I saw a lot of older folks who dug Enterprise. My mom loved it a lot more than the series between it and the original. It just had a whole sense of "been there" for me.

Joelle: Fun is the key word for me, too. I ask no more than to enjoy. Anything else is gravy.

I've been a ST fan for as long as I can remember, and I'm very excited for the upcoming movie. I'll be there on opening night with all the other dorks. I don't have expectations of it being the best ST movie ever, but I am ready for a fun, sci-fi action movie, and I think Abrams will be able to deliver.

I've never sat through Nemesis-- I was watching it on a flight to Oakland in 2002, and I lost interest in it.

I'll commit hearesy here and say that I loved Enterprise. I seem to be a minority. I liked the characters, I liked the way that they explained a lot of things in the whole franchise, and weren't afraid to do things like make the Vulcans out to be not such the good guys that they seem to be. And the special effects were the best of any of the series.

The new movie looks like it was aimed in their twenties, which I'm certain it was. I thought ST:TNG was going to suck-- and it did, initially. I'll certainly see the movie, and reserve judgement.

I don't think you can really judge J.J. Abrams as a director based on Lost and Felicity. I never saw Felicity, so I can't really speak on it, but with Lost, Abrams is so busy with other things that I doubt he has much of a hand in the show these days (so anything that annoys you about the show these days probably has little or nothing to do with Abrams). You can't deny that it's a great premise though and has memorable characters, which are the things I would credit Abrams with helping to create.

I have faith in him as a director. I think he's a talented and creative guy and honestly Mission: Impossible 3 is a great action movie. If you actually give that film a chance, I think you will enjoy it. And it gives me hope for this Star Trek movie, especially in terms of it being an exciting and action-packed film.

I'm ready for new Trek.

Over the years Star Trek has been watered down to the point where who could care about Nemesis. No risks taken, no (shall I say it?) boldness.

Fans have truly kept the show going when frankly it should have been let go.

I wouldn't have cared if the movie was a complete reboot but I understand why JJ wanted to shut that element up who would have bashed the film for breaking an already decidedly crippled continuity. The fan-base are an energy draining bunch, who were complaining about the movie before even a photo had been released. As a film maker, who would need that type of negativity in their lives?

I don't care if so called die hard fans drop off because the new movie is too shiny or action orientated or doesn't fit into their perfect worlds where their fanboy team ups of a resurrected Kirk, Sisko, Janeway and Picard ponder the meanings of Gilbert and Sullivan.

Some energy won't hurt Star Trek at all.

This film won't be Wrath of Khan but then all I'm hoping is that it's good enough to warrant an awesome sequel.
