Week 90 Spotlight: We’re all Bootsy
To say that it’s been a tragic week in Hollywood would be an understatement. First, Ed McMahon passed away. Then, Farrah Fawcett lost her battle with cancer. And the biggest shock of all came hours after Fawcett’s death when the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, died after an apparent overdose on painkillers.
On this week’s show, Joel Murphy and Lars take time out to honor all three celebrities. They talk about how McMahon showed the world how to be a true sidekick, how Fawcett made quite a few boys into men and how Jackson revolutionized the music scene.
Can the show still manage to be funny in spite of all of the sadness this week? Why do our cohosts know such much about old Simpsons episodes? Is it time to bring back Bruce Wayne? The answers to these questions and more are in this week’s podcast.

The last fifteen years or so, I’ve felt bad for MJ in a way. As many people have said before, all that fame probably greatly contributed to his weirdness. I found him to be neither creepy nor badass… just a bit sad. I mean, sure, WAY back in the day, I remember the music and the greatness, but the last decade and a half was absolute crap.
But you’re both right, MJ was part of the fabric of our culture, and it’s going to be weird without him. I’m still pretty indifferent about his death on a personal level, though, but I have a difficult time feeling emotionally attached to most celebrities.
(There are a couple, though, to whom I am decidedly attached, and I shall not even mention their names lest they be taken from me. So, I do understand how some people out there are distraught right now. I’m not completely heartless.)
Regarding Perez Hilton, though? Ugh. High school girl, indeed! I hate being reminded that he exists.

That was a great podcast, guys. You were respectful of the recently deceased, called out the recently punched, and said some smart stuff in ways that had me laughing out loud. (I won’t abbreviate that either, in case you guys hate that one.)
Rest In Peace: EM, FF, MJ. Our culture is now 3 icons less.
