Hobo Stu

Hello everyone,

It’s been a busy week on HoboTrashcan. We brought you three new reviews, two guest columns, two regular columns and a new t-shirt design (and a partridge in a pear tree). Clearly that case of Red Bull that got shipped to the office by mistake is paying off.

You can find the rest of the new content below, but if you missed the announcement yesterday, I would like to take a moment to spotlight the new t-shirt in the HoboTrashcan store. The shirt, Don’t Cross the Streams, is a “totally original design that in no way references any iconic films from the 1980s” and it can be yours for a mere $20. So if you are a fan of the site or a fan of hilarious shirts, then I highly suggest picking one up today.

Here’s what’s new on HoboTrashcan.com this week:

Review – 12 Rounds: Extreme Cut (Blu-ray)
WWE Studios has already been responsible for three horrible films, See No Evil, The Marine and The Condemned, so there was no reason to think 12 Rounds would be any better. However, the John Cena action movie actually turned out to be a fun and entertaining film.

Review – Leverage: The First Season
If Ocean’s 11 and Robin Hood ever had a baby, it would be Leverage, a show about a disenfranchised former insurance fraud investigator who assembles a team of thieves to help him right injustices. This week, we take a look at season one of the hit TNT show, which was just released on DVD.

Review – The Mighty Boosh: Season One
While American network executives are content to keep making cookie-cutter sitcoms, over in England they are actually making quirky, original comedy programs like The Mighty Boosh. So if you are tired of the same old comedy, we encourage you to go “on a journey through time and space … to the world of the Mighty Boosh!”

Murphy’s Law – The Mike O’Meara Show (and common sense) fall victim to WJFK
Earlier this week, WJFK in D.C. announced plans to switch formats to a sports talk station in order to compete with Dan Snyder. As part of the change, the station announced that it was canceling the Mike O’Meara Show. This week, Joel Murphy reveals why this move is a huge mistake.

Positive Cynicism – Dumbing down the Oscars
People complain about everything from the length of the Academy Awards telecast to the films that are nominated, which leaves the Academy looking for ways to “fix” the ceremony. However, Aaron R. Davis argues that they shouldn’t listen to what the average viewers want since the Oscars really aren’t about them.

Guest Blog Post – Take me out to the ball game, if you must
Kelly Goldston, a.k.a. Ball Magnet, has had a checked past with professional baseball. However, she recently gave America’s pastime another chance and discovered how much fun it can be. So this week, she shares five tips to help other baseball-phobic ladies have a good time.

Guest Blog Post – What’s in a name?
Years ago, blogger Lori Graham hastily chose the Internet moniker “Superfantastic” thinking that writing on the web wasn’t going to be a long-term commitment. Now she is stuck with the name, which she finds to be both a blessing and a curse.

Week 92 Spotlight: A case of the Eddie Murphys

Not only is the U.S. government commissioning an army of gunship-building robots who can feed off of dead humans for energy, but as of today, the Mike O’Meara Show is officially no more.

However, neither one of these sad stories is as upsetting as Joel Murphy’s diagnosis of Christian Bale. Our Hobo Radio co-hosts are both huge fans of Bale, but after seeing his performances in The Dark Knight, Terminator Salvation and Public Enemies, Joel can’t help but wonder if Bale has developed a case of the Eddie Murphys.

What exactly are the Eddie Murphys? Why are parents forcing their children to play in a public fountain? And why is the government hellbent on killing us all? The answers to these questions and more are in this week’s podcast.
