I'm really torn. On the one hand I agree that a person's work is separate from their lives outside of their job (as entertainer), and so find it reasonable to enjoy someones work even if they are an asshole or worse, commit a crime. I can still enjoy their old stuff, and only feel a little bad, but somehow paying them for making something new after they've done something horrible, just makes me feel really dirty. But, really, if they've served their debt by going to jail or whatever, then they're free to continue in their job. But then again, famous entertainers tend to be given special treatment and are often not forced to serve their punishments, or get fewer punishments, etc...

You're right. It's all to much to think about when I just want to watch a movie or listen to music. I don't want to have to be confronted with the ethical dilemma. Your solution is perfect. Kittens, indeed. Especially if they have yarn.

I always find this an interesting issue--these artists' and athletes' actions somehow being connected in fans' minds with their work. I have no problem with saying "Chinatown" is a great movie, but Polanski should go to jail for raping a child. It doesn't make "Chinatown" suddenly a bad movie, the two aren't really related. And people shouldn't get out of paying the price for their crimes just because they are talented.
