The only way I will ever go see such a blasphemous remake of a cult childhood classic is:

If Ally Sheedy appears in the new flick…as like an estranged Aunt who comes into town after discovering that her lover is really a spy who programs robots to kill people and cause anarchy in third world countries so we can exploit them for their resources, and now it is up to her, the kid, and Johnny 5 to save us all and rid the world of robot armies.

But, if that isn’t a pivotal plotline, then I totally endorse throat punching.

Will D – A follow-up would probably work better than a remake, especially if they got Guttenberg and Fisher Stevens involved.

House – I would totally watch that movie.

Remakes suck…..they remake these old stories and I still can’t get my screen play through to Hollywood. It’s about this creepy guy on Facebook that sends you a friend request and two days later you die. So that would leave me the creepy guy, someone’s Grandfather and George Clooney to drink beers and golf all day. The working title is: Better Off Facebook.
I bit this premise completely off ‘One Missed Call’ but say want you want, its still a better idea than Viewmaster.

Burn Hollywood Burn!
Growing up if Short Circuit wasn’t on TV it would be playing via VCR. It’s the movie that inspired my kid brother to scratch build pipecleaner and card Johnny 5 lookalikes, one of which I still have secreted in a box in my basement.
Yet again Hollywood will taint the halcyon days of my youth with a shitty remake.
Johnny 5 is alive, but only in our memories.
This is why the robots will rise up and kill us all, because we just couldn’t let a good thing be.
Input, input, input!

You’re lying to me, Joel Murphy.

Because if you’re not lying, then I too would like to get in a few good punches to whoever’s responsible for this. Why can’t they use their imagination and come up with an original movie concept? Do we need to constantly revive characters from the 80s? Are we as a generation unable to be drawn to the movies unless there’s some sort of nostalgia factor? Isn’t it enough to just have good ideas done well? Is Hollywood incapable of doing such a thing any more?

But I love short circuit. Instead of a remake they should just do a follow up. Johnny 5 in the new millenia. When I was a kid I could watch short circuit everyday. Favorite parts are when he gets latinoized and helps steal radios and when they use the calculator to play a song to get rescued.
