Amanda: Yes, I knew about the Ben Franklin turkey thing. And you're right, Joel, it must have been a booze and whore-fueled decision on his part.

I don't think anyone in my family actually wished anyone else a happy Thanksgiving; it was all "Turkey Day" this and "Turkey Day" that. I nearly shanked someone.

The level of dysfunction and trauma this year was elevated to such a point that, not only was I subjected to repeated wishes of a happy Turkey Day, but I had to endure not just one, but SEVERAL "it is what it is" comments from any number of relatives.

It's enough to turn the happiest person alive into a giant ball of grumpiness.

Ben Franklin was actually one who pushed for the turkey to be our national bird. Of course, he was drunk and whoring most of the time, so I doubt he was thinking too clearly when he came up with that one.

Turkey Day - ugh, it's like nails on a chalkboard.

Joelle: Why so grumpy?

What's not to like about Thanksgiving?

Did you know that the Turkey was once considered as the emblem for America over the Bald Eagle because of its strength and presence (thank you Iron Chef).

Also, Thanksgiving used to be a week later than it currently is, but that wise FDR decided to move it earlier in the month to lengthen the commercial Christmas shopping season.

Other than that random trivia, I think making children dress up like pilgrims and indians to reconstruct an illusion of coexistence, families gathering in close quarters to crtiticize one another's cooking and drinking heavily just to cope with differing personalities and years of resentment, as well as the endorsement of overeating in a already obese nation is a superb way to spend a Thursday in November. Yay Turkey Day! (That one's for Joel)

Wow, I think I might need more cold meds - that was a bit incoherent.

What I meant to say was that I'm grumpy about Christmas, but less grumpy than I was about Thanksgiving... Maybe? I dunno.

YAY! My birthday!!!

At least Thanksgiving is over. Man, I hate Thanksgiving. In fact, I hate November. November and August. Oh, and February sucks, too.

I kind of just hate everything.

Except for my birthday, which falls irritatingly close to Christmas.

Ah yes, carol singing. Where being loud is encouraged over being in tune (just like hymns in church).

Screw Christmas. Get into the spirit of Festivus.

Airing Grievances and Feats of Strength: There is nothing better to prepare you for the start of a New Year than telling people why they irritate you and then wrestling them.

But if that doesn't work, then I endorse the Elf method, "The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear." You have to admit that the one withstanding element of Christmas, through commercialism and earlier every year-ism, is the classic carol.
