Hobo Stu’s Weekly Recap
December 11, 2009 Weekly Recap No Comments
Hobo Stu |
Hello everyone,
At this point, I’m sure that all of you fine readers have already purchased HoboTrashcan merch for everyone on your Christmas list this year. You know that everyone from Grandma to little Suzy will be filled with great joy as they open up their Hobo Stew or Don’t Cross the Streams t-shirts.
But unfortunately, your holiday preparation isn’t over yet. You still have to wrap these fine gifts. But who wants to go to the trouble of picking out, unrolling and cutting down wrapping paper? Not only is it a hassle, but it’s also pretty played out at this point.
So if you want to save time and start an exciting new Christmas trend, we recommend wrapping your HoboTrashcan t-shirt … in another HoboTrashcan t-shirt. It’s a bold move, but we guarantee it will make you the coolest relative at this year’s Christmas party. (Suck on that, Uncle Ted.)
Here’s what’s new on HoboTrashcan.com this week:
Murphy’s Law – Next floor, Uranus
It may sound like something out of The Jetsons, but space elevators are a very real concept that scientists are currently working to develop. This week, Joel Murphy shares some of the pitfalls of these space elevators and reveals a better option for intergalactic travel.
Outside of the In-Crowd – Goodbye 2009, Part 2: The worst of the decade
In her ongoing retrospective, Courtney Enlow has “decided to devote two solid weeks to nothing but beauty and glory and sweet tender goodness.” However, this is not one of those weeks. Instead, Enlow reveals the absolute worst fashion and cinema of the decade.
Positive Cynicism – ‘Tis the season to piss me off
HoboTrashcan’s resident Grinch, Aaron R. Davis, is no fan of the holidays. He is also no fan of the fact that during the holidays the media begins to run out of compelling stories, so we are all forced to endure endless coverage of Tiger Woods, the Salahis and Sarah Palin.
Hobo Radio 110 – Who could forget Joyeux Noel?
As December 25 approaches, most of us turn to the holiday classics to help summon up our Christmas spirit. Films like Miracle on 34th Street, It’s a Wonderful Life and Die Hard help us to remember the true spirit of the season.
In honor of these classic films, Moviefone has assembled their list of the top 25 Christmas movies of all time. This week, Joel Murphy and Lars take a look at Moviefone’s list and share their own thoughts on the best films of the season. They also find the time to discuss space elevators, their tombstones and, of course, Batman.
What Christmas classics got the shaft from Moviefone? What film would our dynamic duo put at number one? What woman in her 70s would Joel and Lars still hook up with? The answers to these questions and more are in this week’s podcast.
Finish That Fortune 15
We provide you with the first half of a real fortune from a fortune cookie and it’s up to you to fill in the blank (and you can’t just write “in bed”). Every week, we will pick the funniest response. You won’t actually win a prize, but you will get the satisfaction of knowing that you are better than everyone else. And your name will be printed here on the site, so that others may bask in your glory.
From the Vault – One on One with John DiMaggio
He’s brought life to a beer swilling, cigar chomping robot and twice saved the world from a horde of underground locusts, but last year John DiMaggio faced his most difficult challenge – making Aquaman cool.
DiMaggio is known for his role as Bender the robot on Futurama and Marcus Fenix in the Gears of War video game franchise, but now he can be heard as the voice of Aquaman on Batman: The Brave and The Bold. Last year, we had an opportunity to talk to DiMaggio about portraying the king of Atlantis, the joys of playing a video game that you star in and the impending robot apocalypse. If you missed it then, enjoy it now.
