Good point about Sayid possibly talkiing about Shannon rather than Nadia. With the flash-sideways referring to his alterna-relationship with Nadia, I think she’s probably the most likely subject, though.

If MIB is able (and willing) to follow through on his promises, I suspect that he won’t be limited to fulfilling wishes on the island, or even necessarily in the same universe of the island. The alterniverse could be seen as the result of Sayid wishing he could have Nadia. Claire is working with MIB, so maybe alterniClaire will get to keep Aaron.

In any case I was hoping you would have spent more time discussing the whole “made a deal with the devil” scenario we are seeing now with several characters but oh well. I really like the idea that the flash-sideways is the heaven or hell or whatever. I know it won’t turn out that way literally but metaphorically it will always be a possibility.

At first I (and many others I would imagine) thought ‘Nadia’. But now that I think about it, Shannon seems just as likely.

MIB seems pretty confident that he can bring her back (assuming he isn’t lying) and Sayid looks as though he’s staying on the Island. Shannon is buried on the Island and we all know what happens to things that get buried there. I doubt Nadia will be brought back to life and brought to the Island. Although I find it hard to imagine Shannon actually making return (even if Maggia Grace wasn’t such a busy bee) MIB is capable of convincing Sayid he can have Shannon.

Another interesting thought is that MIB has Lockes memories (he knew what he was thinking as he was killed, doubt he would lie about that). Locke was responsible for the death of Shannons brother. More importantly, MIB knows that Sayid loved Shannon. What does he know about Nadia? Not much*.

I’ve also been thinking a lot about the beginning of last week’s episode, with Jack looking at the scar on his abdomen and stating to his mother that he doesn’t remember having his appendix out. I can’t get it out of my mind because I keep thinking, “What eight-year-old doesn’t remember having surgery?” Believe me, I vividly remember having my tonsils out when I was seven-years-old (back when two or three sore throats a winter meant your tonsils were coming out) and this is the crazy place my mind went to…

Remember Richard taking the young Ben from Kate and Sawyer after he was shot by Sayid, saying that if he did this (heal Ben)that Ben would not remember it (the being healed part) and he would be forever changed by the experience? What if that scar on adult Jack is not a scar from an appendectomy but a scar left from the “test” an eight-year-old Jack passed at the temple spring? A test to see whether his good and evil were balanced and THAT’S why he doesn’t remember it (just as Ben doesn’t seem to remember his “healing” at the spring after Sayid shot him!)

This popped into my head after Dogen talked about Jacob coming to him in the hospital after his accident. Jacob came to Ilana in the hospital too, when the only recognizable parts of her were her eyes and lips sticking out of that plaster of paris full body cast she was wearing in a Russian hospital, after some horrible accident. (Good God! Does this make our friend Jacob the worst kind of lawyer… an ambulance chaser?) Maybe Christian and Dogen had similar stories of drunk behind the wheel, killing their son and being offered redemption of some kind in the hospital. Didn’t Jack’s mother say Christian had wanted to do Jack’s surgery himself but was not allowed to?

Probably way off base here. What do you think?
