Hobo Radio 208 – The saddest Thanksgiving
- “Giddy Up” by Tahuna Breaks
- Thanksgiving/Black Friday
- “Turkey Leg Woman” by Doug MacLeod
In addition to an excuse to eat your weight in delicious food, Thanksgiving is a time to reconnect with friends and family. So this week, Joel Murphy and Lars reconnect with their pal Jane, who joins them for a Thanksgiving-themed podcast.
The trio discuss all things Thanksgiving, including the one dish they can’t live without and the odd, quirky things their individual families served. Joel also rants about his hatred of the phrase “Turkey Day” and they all discuss their aversion to Black Friday. Plus, they compete to see who has the most depressing Thanksgiving sob story.
What day is it? Why does it have to be Black Friday? Who had the saddest Thanksgiving? The answers to these questions and more are in this week’s podcast.
Hobo Radio is the official podcast of HoboTrashcan, brought to you by The Podcast Network.

Thanksgiving is much more inclusive than “Turkey Day.” Especially since not everyone eats turkey on Thanksgiving day. The pilgrims probably had wild turkey at their meal, since they were readily available, but accounts of the first several Thanksgivings indicate that there were all sorts of game birds, venison, gourds, and lots of lots of seafood. So you could very well say “happy oyster casserole day” and you’d be aligning yourselves with the Pilgrims more than with “happy turkey day.” Plus, and I know you probably look down your noses at vegetarians on “Turkey Day,” but we also enjoy our Thanksgiving feasts. Turkey might be at the center of the table, but I think the stuffing and cranberries are the real stars. And all my favorite foods are beige.
Pugs are in the Toy Category. And it was the American Kennel Club Eukanuba National Championship. My favorite categories are the working dogs and the herding dogs. After watching that, I just had the urge to watch Best in Show for the hundredth time.
Tryptophan doesn’t make you sleepy, it’s the gorging that makes you sleepy. There’s more tryptophan in chicken than in turkey.
As a small business person, too, I’m trying to do my best this year to buy gifts made by small businesses (and from friends if I can manage it). Hooray for Small Business Saturday! And I’m totally going to add you on Etsy, Jane! (My store’s at: http://sparklej.etsy.com)
Hope you three had a wonderful Thanksgivings! Sorry you had to work, Lars. Lars and Joel, your “thankful for” lists were lame.
And Merry Christmas, Jane! I hope you’re on many, many more podcasts. <3!

I just tried fried stuffing. It rules. Thank you, Jane. And thank you Jane’s mom.

Joel wins! Sounds pretty traumatic. Lars’s is good but that’s more for this Thanksgiving whereas Joel’s is every Thanksgiving

Boy, Jane, your list of things that you are thankful for really went in a different direction there. Wasn’t expecting that at all.
