Best of 2012 – Most memorable feature stories

As 2012 comes to an end (and not the way the Mayans had hoped), we thought it would be nice to take a look back at some of the best content HoboTrashcan had to offer.

Today, we bring you five of the most memorable feature stories from the site.

Hanging Around … The Doctor Who Series Seven Premiere
With a pack of enthusiastic fans herded behind barricades, from a distance the Doctor Who Series Seven premiere in New York City looked like a typical big Hollywood event. However, upon closer inspection, it was clear that these weren’t your average fans or Hollywood stars. Instead of arriving in black stretch limos, actors Matt Smith and Karen Gillan pulled up in front the Ziegfeld Theater in matching DeLoreans, a clever play on the British television show’s time travel theme.

Getting to Know … Bane
After Heath Ledger’s Academy Award winning performance as The Joker in The Dark Knight Rises, casual fans may have seen Bane as an odd choice for the villain in the final installment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. If you weren’t an avid comic book reader in the 90s, you may wonder why Nolan would choose a guy last seen on-screen as Poison Ivy’s monosyllabic muscle in Batman and Robin. But this article, featuring interviews with the creative team behind Bane’s creation and the memorable Knightfall storyline, explain why he’s the right man for the job.

Hanging Around … the set of Things I Don’t Understand
On a cold April night in Brooklyn, New York, one block over from where they shoot The Good Wife, director David Spaltro stood on the sidewalk in front of a monitor doing final preparations for his next scene. His assistant director, Grant DeSimone, talked to the tenant from the upstairs apartment of the building they are shooting in front of, asking politely if he’ll stop practicing the drums while they film. The actors, Molly Ryman and Aaron Mathias, had no trailers, so they huddled together in the back of a van with the heat running waiting to be called to the set. This is life on location for Things I Don’t Understand.

Hanging Around … Super Art Fight
Super Art Fight, the Baltimore-based drawing competition, came to The Red Palace in Washington, DC and we were there to cover it. It was a night of intense action, as Team Impact was set to implode, “Red” Erin Laue was looking to avenge her loss at Super Art Fight Idol and Baron Von Sexyfulness was looking to bring sexy back to The Red Palace. Find out about this unique event that turns artist into rock stars in this in-depth feature.

Hanging Around … Metro Cooking and Entertaining Show
In November, Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons from Top Chef and celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis all made appearances at the annual Metropolitan Cooking and Entertaining Show in DC. We were on-hand to watch their cooking expos and today we bring you a full recap of them, as well as the rest of the action at the massive two-day expo.
