Hobo Radio 307 – Snake Plisskened
Joel Murphy’s worst nightmare has come true – he’s been Snake Plisskened. And while he can’t be sure that it was the “Sword of Damocles” that knocked out his cable TV and Internet, he can be sure that his future is looking rather dystopian (at least until Verizon restores his service).
In addition to the outage, Murphy and Lars also discuss the Game of Thrones finale, Jay Leno’s most difficult guests and the real reason bands demand a bowl full of green M&Ms before a show.
What are the chances George R.R. Martin finishes the next book before season five premieres? What does Eddie Murphy demand in his dressing room before an interview? Who does a worse Jay Leno impression? The answers to these questions and more are in this week’s podcast.
This week’s music:
- Intro – “Giddy Up” by Tahuna Breaks
- End – “Creepy Doll” by Jonathan Coulton

Thanks for the shout out guys. I just wanted to weigh in on your Game of Thrones bet (especially considering the fact that I fret over the health of a old overweight man). I do not think Winds of Winter (book 5) will be out before April 2015. George has admitted that he is a slow writer. In addition to that, he writes other things. He gave an interview with Io9 recently in which he said that he gets ideas for other stories while writing his epic and so he trails off and does other things. He also writes show episodes and makes all those con appearances. As much as I wish he could be chained to a chair and forced to finish the series, I know creativity doesn’t work like that.
I also think that the showrunners will have to start borrowing from unpublished material next season. Bran’s storyline is just about completely caught up with where we leave him in A Dance with Dragons.
Also, in regards to #LSH – unless she is revealed to have a great significance to the overall story, I don’t think they will bring her into the show. I think too many fantasy elements will alienate viewers. The “Children” or Martin’s take on Fairies are weird enough, shooting balls of fire like fucking Sookie Stackhouse. (A convenient defense considering the enemy). I also read an article that said they wouldn’t pursue LSH unless the story demanded it. And I think that is totally okay. Just like Brienne and the Mountain fighting – not in the books, but totally awesome. I’ve enjoyed all of the adaptions thus far and I think some book readers are far to uptight. Television is an entirely different medium of storytelling.
But I honestly believe they will start pulling from unpublished material next season for certain characters or they will have to come up with very creative ways to expand on the material that exists, i.e. the one Bran chapter in A Dance with Dragons. They’ll need to get creative with Sansa as well.
