The most thrilling Vegas movies of all time

The city of Las Vegas creates an excellent backdrop to many films, as there’s tension and windfalls in equal measure here. Everything from casino heists to high-octane games have taken place in this setting over the decades. Here are our top picks to watch when you want to be transported to the City of Lights:

Ocean’s Eleven has to be one of the very best casino based movies to ever come out of Hollywood. It’s an instant hit with just about anyone that watches it and the cinematography is impeccable. The 2001 remake of the 1960s classic stars George Clooney as the creative thief Danny Ocean. He targets three Las Vegas casinos to steal his fortune and uses a cast of colorful characters to assist him. The next two installments in the series, Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen, are great movies too but the first in the series is undoubtedly the best. If you feel like taking a walk back in time, then check out the original movie too. The characters have the same kind of skills, but it’s not quite as flashy as the remake. Though still a good watch.

Created almost parallel to What Women Want, Think Like a Man Too does the gender-swap story in a slightly different way. In this movie, the girls are tired of staying home and playing bingo, they want to hit the big city instead. It’s easy to find bingo games online, but these girls are looking for more adventure in Viva Las Vegas on a wedding weekend. Those who love slapstick comedy and funny twists will enjoy the return of these characters and their partners. There are makeovers, high stakes games, big laughs and even a few touching moments in this comedy, so it has a good mix of serious plot points and a bit of fun.

The Hangover is one of the best Vegas-based movies and is a must see for the perfect grown up comedy movie. Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms and Bradley Cooper make up the comedy trio of the movie, complete with a baby in tow. This 2009 movie is absolutely outrageous and hilarious, with more plot twists than you’ll be able to handle. For a follow up on the fun you can also watch the sequel, The Hangover 2 for another installment of their wacky adventures. The majestic Caesars Palace is the backdrop for this film and this gives you a sneak peek into the world of the high roller. These comedic misadventures really endear the viewers to the cast and it won’t be long before you feel like you’re in a wolf pack with them too – even Galifianakis’ character will go from painfully cringe worthy to delightfully quirky by the end of the film.

All in all these movies will be sure to get you in the mood to play some poker or blackjack and they’re much more entertaining than the standard James Bond casino movies.
