Throwback Thursday – Our previous Hobo Madness Tournaments

Joel Murphy, Lars Periwinkle and their friends are back with their seventh annual Hobo Madness Tournament. To get yourself psyched up for this year’s match ups, revisit all six previous tournaments below.

In 2014, in a tribute to two greats who passed away, they pitted the films of Philip Seymour Hoffman against the films of Harold Ramis.

In 2015, they decided to pay tribute to NBC’s last great comedy line up. The four best episodes from Parks and Recreation, Community, 30 Rock and The Office squared off to declare one ultimate winner.

In 2016, they attempted the impossible by crowning the best Simpsons episode of all time. They broke the episodes up into four categories – Homer’s Wacky Adventures, Road Trips & Vacations, Simpsons Family Episodes and Side Character Episodes – and narrowed the field down to 24 episodes.

In 2017, in honor of Bill Paxton, who squared off against an Alien, Terminator and Predator, and Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla‘s MonsterVerse, they pitted 16 monsters against each other to crown one ultimate winner. The monsters were split into two categories – sci-fi and horror – and the match ups were randomly drawn out of a hat. They also randomly drew the location of these battles, using four possible locales – Desert, Snowy Mountain, Island Jungle and Bustling Metropolis.

In 2018, they pitted 18 of the world’s greatest action heroes against each other. Nine men and nine women squared off in eight randomly selected locales drawn out of a hat. Rambo, Dutch, John McClane, John Wick, Tyler Durden, Jack Burton, Indiana Jones, Dom Toretto, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Ripley, The Bride, Sarah Conner, Imperator Furiosa, Katniss Everdeen, Foxy Brown, Letty Ortiz, Hanna and Gracie Hart competed to crown one ultimate winner.

In 2019, they carried the spirit of International Women’s Day through the rest of March by selecting 16 bad ass women to face off in combat. Selina Kyle, Diana Prince, Leia Organa, Okoye, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Alice, Brienne of (f’n) Tarth, Hermione Granger, River Song, Yu Shu Lien, Gamora, River Tam, Xena Warrior Princess, Jessica Jones, Leeloo Dallas (Multipass) and Black Widow faced off in eight randomly selected locations.

This year’s tournament pits characters from 30 Rock, Arrested Development, Better Call Saul, Community, Frasier, Girls, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Parks and Recreation against each other to see who would survive the longest during a global pandemic.

Listen each week to Hobo Radio to hear the winners.
